Conference TEDx in the Palais des Festivals de Cannes, june 2021.
What is the sense of smell?
How important is it in human life?
What can the creation of perfumes teach us about "feeling" and "sensing"?
Laurence Fanuel takes us between science and art, in an exploration of this sense much deeper than we think, which the recent planetary anosmia revealed. With a doctorate in biotechnology, Laurence first worked in an American multinational as a researcher and then as a perfumer dedicated to innovative products for the home. She then went on to create in perfumery houses of various cultures (Japan, France, India, the Netherlands). Today, she works with artists, museums, directors and private clients to develop new uses for scents. For her, arts and sciences must be intertwined to apprehend the human and the unknown: this is what she teaches her international students. Laurence Fanuel has contributed to the writing of several books:
"L’Art Olfactif Contemporain" (Ed. Classiques Garnier), "Les Femmes en Parfumerie" (Ed. Soroptimist) et "L’Art de Distiller la Vie selon Rosa Rose" (Ed. Maïa).
