Creation workshop in the heart of Grasse

Laurence Fanuel is above all a researcher. For her, "life is a research lab": everything awakens her curiosity, and it is this curiosity that leads her by the nose!

She first explored academic research in the field of biotechnologies under the cover of a FNRS doctoral thesis in Belgium. She then explored R&D in an American multinational company, before becoming, in the same company, a perfumer dedicated to innovative products for home. Her next experiences took place in perfumery houses of various cultures (Japan, France, India, the Netherlands).

Since childhood, nature and the arts have nourished her. Drawing and painting were her first passions, then came the practice and the artistic creation in the performing arts - diction, declamation, dance, piano, singing, tap dancing, musical comedy, and finally theater and clowning. It is therefore natural that Laurence has built, in parallel to her career as a perfumer, an innovative multimedia artistic path, where painting, theater, writing and scents are intertwined over time, through travel and encounters. This is how she scents plays, contemporary art exhibitions, dinners of starred chefs, concerts, between Brussels, Strasbourg, Paris, Grasse and Switzerland. In Brussels, she created the collective "Artchimistes", in Paris the theater group "L'Artchimie du Vertige" and the contemporary art trio "Dialogues d'Essences"; in Grasse, she joined the Compagnie la Nuit Blanche; she also collaborated in the writing of the book L'Art Olfactif Contemporain (Ch. Jaquet, 2015, Ed. Classique Garnier) and created a start-up.

Through the practice of arts, the human being has become her subject of research, in particular she studies the resonances between these different media that are smells, colors, sounds and words, and their effects on feelings. Laurence also has a taste for polarizing smells, full of meaning, and it is this quest for meaning that sets her in motion. Her research into the emotional power of scents has led Laurence to set up her multi-sensory creation workshop in the heart of Grasse, as a way of touching people "at the deepest level".

Laurence is also an active member of the Board of Directors of the association for the preservation of the know-how related to perfumes in the Pays de Grasse as part of UNESCO's Intangible Heritage, defending the power of the sense of smell and olfactory artistic creation.
